Brandon J. Snyder takes the mic for Pretenzo, a homemade rap track built around sampled voice clips from Lorenzo Ocon’s earlier Dollars & Donuts appearances.
The resulting music video throws Lozo into a parade of increasingly ridiculous outfits pulled straight from his own closet, while Snyder’s rhymes and Lorenzo’s disembodied interjections turn years of inside jokes into something resembling a legitimate rap video.
Behind the Scenes
Pretenzo grew out of the increasingly self-referential world of early Dollars & Donuts. Brandon J. Snyder built the song around samples of Lorenzo Ocon taken from previous videos, transforming bits of Lozo dialogue into part of the track itself.
For the video, Daryl raided Lorenzo’s closet looking for the loudest and most ridiculous combinations he could find. Rather than inventing a new character for Lozo, the wardrobe exaggerated what was already there, turning his existing clothes and personality into the visual identity of the piece.
The production was deliberately excessive compared with the simplicity of the song. Costume changes, exaggerated posing, and performance footage gave Snyder’s homemade rap track the treatment of a much more serious music video, while Lorenzo’s sampled voice kept puncturing any possibility of taking it seriously.
Years later, Daryl returned to the original HDV cassette masters. In 2021, the footage was transferred again directly from the source tapes and remastered, restoring detail that had been lost in the older versions circulating online.
