Written by Leo Maza, punched up by Patrick Duggan, and punched back down by Daryl Della and Sasha Boggs until it was mashed into a fine pulp, Five Days to Live is a deliriously unhinged dark comedy that turns the inspirational journey inside out and leaves it twitching on the floor. Featuring appearances from Austin’s best and funniest (and Austin Henry), indie cinema star Jake Barcus, and a few familiar Dollars & Donuts faces, this film plays like an old dog-eared MAD Magazine that’s been ripped apart, stapled back together, and read by a blind, deaf troglodyte to his grandma in hospice long after the machine stopped beeping. With a star-making turn from Kelsey Leigh Johnson as the Cars-obsessed hot chick, this film has everything.
Shot across such famous Texas locales like Cleveland, Ohio, Five Days to Live is the kind of movie only Dollars & Donuts would be dumb enough to make. Too long to be a comedy short. Too short to be a feature. It’s tragic. It’s toxic. It’s sweet. It’s sick. It’s ugly. It’s honest. It’s cruel. It’s broken. It’s wrong. It’s right. It’s black and it’s white.
